The unprovoked war with a mysterious alien race is going badly. Minor tactical victories are offset by major strategic setbacks. The aliens know where all Human-occupied worlds are while their own worlds are still unknown. Victor Shiloh's unpredictable precognitive visions are the only thing that is slowly the alien onslaught. Not content with gradually pushing Humanity back, Shiloh's vision reveals a massive attack on Earth, that will have terrible consequences. So far his visions have all come true. Can his A.I. allies make the difference between extermination and survival for the Human Race?
Excerpt
He woke up to the blaring of the ship’s Battle Stations siren with Tanaka’s excited voice calling him via his implant.
“Bridge to Commander! They’re here, Sir! Repeat…they’re here…” Shiloh shook himself awake and started to get up.
“I’m awake, Sumi. What’s happening?” He was glad he decided to sleep in his uniform for just this kind of emergency.
“Jump detection contacts! Lots of them!” When he was sure that she wasn’t going to say more, he said.
“From what bearing?”
“ALL of them! They’re coming at us from 360 degrees and all three axes!” The near panic in her voice shocked him. By this time, he was running down the corridor to the Bridge. She was already vacating the Command Station chair when he entered the Bridge. Before she could relinquish command, he said in a loud voice.
“The XO still has the Con. XO, take the Helm station; I’ll look after the fighters!” She looked at him with wide eyes but nodded and stepped over to the Helm Station. As he got himself strapped into his chair, he quickly switched com channels to the open channel with the Nimitz Base.
“Nimitz, this is Shiloh! Order your recons to active scanning!” Without waiting for a reply, he switched to the fighter com channel. By prior arrangement, DeChastelaine had agreed to let Shiloh take tactical command of her fighters too. “CAG to fighters! Launch your recons and go active! Light’em up! We need to see their vectors and speeds! If you have a viable intercept solution, take the shot!” By now he was strapped in and had time to actually look at the tactical display. Tanaka was right. Red triangles indicating jump emergence points were all around the planet as well as above and below it. There was something about this strategy that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up. Concentration of force was a key tactical concept that should theoretically be valid to any species. There was strength in numbers and it minimized communication lags. So why was this alien fleet…this alien, A.I.-controlled fleet behaving this way? They must know that they risked being picked off one at a time. He didn’t have an answer to his question and…no vision either.
“Task Force Leader on Tac 4, Sir!” yelled the com tech. Shiloh switched over to that com channel and said.
“Shiloh here. Go ahead Task Force Leader!” As he spoke he searched the display to find the four combat frigates. They were following standard doctrine and were in close formation orbiting the Nimitz Base moon.
“Victor! Get your fighters into action!” Shiloh suppressed his surge of anger. Task Force Leader Sobrist and he were both Senior Commanders. The deployment order from HQ on Sol had placed all ships in the Avalon system under the authority of Sobrist BUT it also made it clear that when Shiloh was wearing his Commander Autonomous Group hat, he had sole discretion on how to use those fighters. Not only was Sobrist’s urging that Shiloh get the fighters into action a completely unnecessary stating of the obvious but it was also a distraction that Shiloh as the CAG didn’t need right now.
“I’ve already issued orders to them to…” he stopped talking as the tactical display was updated with the first results of the recon drones’ active scans. They had all the incoming enemy ships on radar now and he was stunned by their speeds. 27,552 kilometers per second.

I read the first book and was pleased that I had found another author to follow. The first book need some work in character development and detail but thought it may have been his first book and I did enjoy it. I had high hopes for the second one, and in fact bought the third one at the same time but #2 was just a big disappointment. It seems rushed with no character development, we still know nothing about the "aliens", and there's no depth to any of the protagonist in the story. SPOILERS*** There is a big build up to a major raid on an alien system. At the last minute it get's called off but later a tech breakthrough allows the raid to proceed using just AI's in attack drones. Sounds exciting right? NO, what you get is, "the drones returned from the raid and it was successful". Really? That's it? Later the Earth is decimated by a biological weapon. There's no anguish, no one is committing suicide in dismay, no one is roaring their anger. It's just kind of "oh well, guess we'll go to the hidden base and see what happens". The battles are brief and not exciting. For goodness sake, tell us something of the aliens! I've bought the 3rd book already so will eventually read it, but if it's not an improvement then I'm done. Recommend the author read some Weber, Dandridge, or Ryk Brown.Product details

The Synchronicity War Part 2 eBook Dietmar Wehr Reviews
Space opera doesn't have to be boring. David Weber pulls it off, and manages to make me care about his characters, without requiring them to do a lot of navel-gazing and angsting. Unfortunately, the characters leave me flat, they are two-dimensional. The opposition seems like a caricature--Bad Alien, kill kill kill. That's about all that you need to know about those the human race is fighting. Millions of sentient beings killed as a result of an attack? Shucks. What a shame. You don't need to have a crying jag over each individual casualty, but even mass deaths don't seem to matter all that much. If you want an indie author that seems to have a handle on this, try Evan Currie's "On Silver Wings" series.
Mr. Wehr goes into great detail about the mechanics of the battles. He uses different technological assumptions than Weber, but the battles are quite believable.
I find that the second book was a bit better than the first. If he could have continued improving, maybe even stepped it up a bit, this series could be something. The author uses cliffhangers in each of the first three in this series. If you need that gimmick to keep people interested, maybe your writing needs to improve. I find Mr. Wehr's writing all of a piece--the books read very similarly to me. If you like any of his books, you will probably like most or all of them.
Try the first one in the series, it's free after all. If it's a disappointment, you probably won't care for the rest. If you like it, you'll probably like the sequels even more.
In writing this review, I assume you have read Part 1. Part 2 (to me at least) is a transitional tale--and concludes the end of one era and gives a glimpse of another. There is plenty of action in this read and the plot moves along at a good pace. There are less spelling errors in this book (which won't give you much pause) and I appreciated the good length of the offering. Part 2 picks up nicely where Part 1 ended and seamlessly continues the storyline. If you enjoyed Part 1--you will find Part 2 to be just as enjoyable. I like this author and look forward to Part 3. If you are new to the series, I recommend you start with Part 1 and carefully read the reviews there (good and bad) as obviously all of the reviews of Part 2 (so far) are 5 stars and reflect readers that enjoyed Part 1.
This new author continues his excellent tale in book 2 of this series. I awarded book 1 five stars in my earlier review and assign the same rating to this volume. This series may not please readers who are hoping for space sex and/or romance novels, as the author does not let such distract from the adventure. But he does desirably devote considerable attention to support and opposition relationships between humans and artificial intelligence beings, an arena that will interest many readers, some of whom may have grown up reading the Asimov “robot” novels and stories. Also suitably covered are the various interactions between characters in a military structure. The author continues with his plausible and appealing characters in a compelling military SF adventure, providing the right amount of attention to astro-navigation and strategic and tactical battle details, but without over-burdening the reader or interrupting the flow and excitement. I like the author’s focuses and approach.
I particularly appreciated the author’s appendix in which he discusses the physics and other details that underlie his treatment of space travel and battles. I also appreciated that the author began this book with the end of book 1 (of particular benefit to those who began book 2 a significant time after finishing book 1) and ended with a sneak preview of the upcoming book 3 (teasing and extending one’s interest).
